The Gaze Trap – New works

Norihiko Terayama initially studied design in Japan before moving to the Design Academy Eindhoven. It was there that he first encountered Dutch conceptual design, an encounter that almost inevitably led him to pursue a career in art. Perhaps this explains the profound intention that resonates throughout each of his works.

The choice of material always marks the starting point of his creative process. His series of works often reveal a consistency, such as in the recurring use of needles or nylon threads. His repertoire of materials, however, extends far beyond this: acrylic paint, paper, wood, dried plants, artificial flowers. Each of these materials carries its own story, one that can only be told through that particular medium.

新刊ZINE“アーティストステートメントの書き方ガイド”- 制作の背景にある“なぜ“を言葉にするために

アーティストが自身の創作の根幹を言語化するための新しいZINE『アーティストステートメントの書き方ガイド』を作りました。
本書は、単なるテンプレートやマニュアルではありません。質問形式と実例を交えながら、作家が自分の経験・動機・テーマを掘り下げ、500字程度で誠実かつ説得力あるステートメントを書き上げられるよう構成されています。
制作のきっかけは、多くの作家が“何を描いているかは話せても、なぜ描いているかを言葉にできない”という課題に直面している現状でした。本ZINEでは、やるべきこと／避けるべきこと、小さなアドバイス、モチベーションを保つための言葉、さらに完成後の見直し方まで、実践的なヒントを掲載しています。
